MARKET REPORT

WEEK 4

As we near the end of January, at last we are seeing some initial signs of a lift in values.

Despite the industry packing 82,000 trays plus last week, domestically demand has been excellent and overall the market seems to be shortening.  As a result we have lifted values for next week on sizes 16 to 30 and expect to see coolstore-door values rise to between $20.00 and $23.00 tray equivalent for next week’s trading.

This lift is reflective across Class 3 lines also.  Expect sizes 16 to 30 to be in the $12.00 to $15.00 range.

After a prolonged period of sluggishness, it is pleasing to see this change – especially given the sizeable export packing still underway. The challenge will be to hold values and we hope that any marketer committing to promotional activity has a clear understanding of potential values as we enter a more positive market

Our stock numbers are spot-on as we enter this re-energised market. For those of you contemplating late-market supply, Rick and Danielle will continue to liaise and update activity. For those producing Reeds for late season market, please be assured that we are geared to market this variety and others.

We now look forward to experiencing some reasonable momentum that will lead to a positive end to the season – after what has been a very prolonged and challenging period.

Best regards,

Glen and team.
