Zeafruit staff proactively support growers to ensure they have up to date quality technical information. We make this investment in our Growers to ensure the risk in their orchard investment is minimized. The focus is sustainability, using knowledge that emphasizes maximum yield and quality, which is practical and cost effective, to achieve profit. We embrace codes of practice that lead to the distribution of safe food products, protection of the environment and the consumer, Benefit to Growers and all partners in the supply chain is the cornerstone of Zeafruit’s operating philosophy.

Juan Ferrere heads our front line technical service. Based in Gisborne, Juan has 25 years hands-on and academic backed experience in the industry. His particular focus and specialty is citrus and leads our Zeafruit National Technical Team.

Sharon Johnston has a wealth of knowledge and respect regarding ‘Integrated fruit production’ (IFP) and International supply certifications (NZGap). Sharon invests her time with Growers to take the hassle out of joining these programmes. In-turn Zeafruit reward participating growers with cash incentives. Sharon is also a seasoned grower in her own right, producing Lemons and Oranges for many years.

Keith Pyle is a Graduate with a plant protection background and a lifetimes experience and dedication to the Citrus industry. Since 1998 he has been a grower and key advisor in the New Zealand Citrus Growers Inc (NZCGI) research programs and headed Zeafruit’s Technical service. Although recently retired, from services to Zeafruit, his mentoring legacy remains of significant value to our technical direction.

Research and Development is an important strategic element in creating a more profitable industry and provides the basis for good advice. Zeafruit actively supports NZCGI and expect our suppliers to be members. As a supplier to Zeafruit you will have levies deducted from your sales proceeds and forwarded on to NZCGI for R&D investment. At present levies are set at 1 cent/kg for oranges and tangelos and 2 cents/kg for lemons, limes grapefruit. Mandarins are levied at 0.5 cents/kg. Process fruit of all types have a levy deducted of 0.3cents per kg. Except for the compulsory levy on Satsuma mandarins & Navel oranges, growers can of course advise Zeafruit not to deduct the voluntary levies on their behalf.
